Principia Mathematica
Principia Mathematica
Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, London WC1
Wed 20 February 2013
7.30 pm
The world premiere of a fascinating and unusual new work by Tyrone Landau based on Principia Mathematica by Alfred North Whitehead & Bertrand Russell, published in the full 3-volume version 100 years ago this year.
The evening is scored for singers, dancers, musicians and philosophers.
Prepare to be astonished. The songs are about No Words, Equivalence, One-Many Many-One and Vicious Circles. Russell and Whitehead planned a further volume of geometric logic, but felt mentally exhausted from the effort. The work closes with Geometry and Fatigue. This spirals down through the terms of symbolic logic to more primitive ones where humanist meanings are resonant.
Performers include: Jane Turner, Tyrone Landau, Tim Taylor, Jenny Patrone, Loren O'Dair and as many philosophers as possible. The piece proposes that the technical language they use has colloquial meanings that are resonant for performance.
