Assisted Suicide The Musical

Jane Turner is delighted to be working as choreographer and rehearsal director on Assisted Suicide: The Musical with actress and disability activist Liz Carr, who plays forensic examiner Clarissa Mullery in the BBC drama Silent Witness.

In 2015, MPs voted overwhelmingly against legalising assisted suicide. Opinion polls would have you believe that the majority of the UK population believe itís a humane choice to legalise assisted suicide for terminally ill or disabled people but Liz, and many other disabled people, disagree. With a lack of creative work exploring the complexity and opposition to this most topical taboo, Liz, along with director Mark Whitelaw, composer Ian Hill and a cast of actors are using the world of musical theatre to tell this important and often unheard perspective.
Assisted Suicide: The Musical is a theatrical extravaganza designed to provoke audiences by subverting notions of choice, dignity, compassion and quality of life through music, comedy, spectacle and shared humanity. It premiered at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall on Saturday 10 September and will next be seen in Liverpool at the Unity Theatre Thu 17 - Fri 18 November 2016.

"The term roller-coaster is used a lot by us reviewers, but AS, The Musical is just that. An exciting, fun packed, laughter filled roller-coaster of a show...a great night out, itís essential for anyone passionate about the issue of assisted suicide, on either side". Mik Scarlet Huffington Post
